Bill Pope (Past-President)

Image Bill brings more than twenty-five years of experience as a lawyer, and several years of experience as an executive and member of the Dawson Creek Chamber of Commerce, to his duties as a director of the Gabriola Chamber. Bill currently divides his time between his law office and the software business he owns with his wife, Pat. When not busy practising law or helping other lawyers with their law office management software opportunities, Bill finds time to try do develop a small amount of competence in his other interests, including photography, banjo music, tai chi, gardening and meditation.

Jacoline Homych (Secretary)

Image

Landowner on Gabriola Island since 2004, Jacoline Homych has been busy creating the Lifestyle that brought her, Husband Lance & Puppy Kayle from Port Coquitlam, B.C. to Gabriola; where they vacationed regularly for about 30 years.

Using their combined talents and experience in renovation and design, they envisioned Cliff Cottage perched on a view bluff. The Homych’s assembled a dedicated team of local trades people to assist them in creating a quality, functional and esthetically pleasing home.

Owners of Cliff Cottage B&B both Lance and Jacoline participate full heartedly in hosting guests from around the world and sharing their home, gourmet cooking skills and many unique qualities of Gabriola with them.

Jacoline, an interior decorator of 20years, works with clients to determine the colors and materials required to create the impact and personalized comforts clients are looking for in their homes. Many homeowners on Gabriola have availed themselves of the talents of this dynamic duo to revision their homes using tiling, hardwood, paint, carpentry, draperies and blinds.

Currently, Jacoline serves the GICC as Secretary and is participating with her usual zeal and enthusiasm. She very much enjoys working with people to hold a bigger vision for both Tourism and GICC on Gabriola Island.

Jacoline enjoys music, theatre, traveling the world and savoring the time at Cliff Cottage, taking in the ever-changing ambience.

Ken Wur (President)

After a 30 year teaching career which began in Manitoba and finished in Qualicum Beach, Ken has retired to Gabriola Island. With tourism as part of his teaching career Ken decided to build a Bed and Breakfast. This is where the dream began to take shape. Having purchased the Meyer Homestead near Drumbeg Park the renovations began.

This beautiful forested 5 acre land is being shaped with love and devotion. The large garden area is being cultivated and more fruit trees are being added. The original Meyer home has been renovated rising to new life with massive fir beams and beautiful cedar siding and decking. This new home is now WUR HERE Bed and Breakfast. As much of the old house was saved and together with new materials a unique west coast design has been created. Each of the B&B bedrooms are self contained and provide the ultimate in privacy, breakfast is delivered to your room.

As well as spending every day building Ken is also a director on the Gabriola Golf Club. Thus with many interests Ken joins with other Gabriolans to work towards a healthy, happy, productive island, an enjoyable place to live for all.

Steve Wohlleben (Director)

Steve moved to Gabriola in 1991 and constructed the largest shopping centre on the Island (Folklife Village) utilizing a recycled pavillion from Expo 86. During the many years since, Steve has served on the Chamber Board in various capacities including President. During his tenure on the Board the Chamber achieved a number of milestones including; establishing a "Visitor Info Centre", the creation of the "Dancing Man Music Festival" and the "Go Gabriola Brochure". Steve has also served on the Boards' of the BC Chamber and Tourism Vancouver Island and has been involved on the executive of the Coastal Council to BC Ferries, the local Ferry Advisory Committee and the Gabriola Parks and Recreation Commission.

Following a year managing a Tourism Study for Tourism Vancouver Island and Vancouver Island University Steve rejoined the workforce in his current capacity as a Commercial Property Manager with DTZ Barnicke (Nanaimo) managing a portfolio on Vancouver Island and enjoys his time off with his family; hopefully tossing a football, fishing and golfing and playing slo-pitch baseball.
