Proposed Participation Levels
NOTE: This page is for discussion purposes only, to develop a policy for participation in the benefits of placement and involvement on web pages at the Gabriola Chamber of Commerce's web site. It does not represent policy of the Chamber, and it is subject to change.
Basic Membership
All members are entitled to a listing in the members' list, plus a listing in the primary category for the member. This listing would include a reference to the member's phone number and address. The image below is a sample of this sort of basic listing.
Web and email links
If a member wants to have a hot-link to a web page and/or an email address, those links could be added for an additional $_____. Because listings with that much text will have space on the left of thebusiness detail listings for a graphic, a listing at this level willentitle the member to add an image to accompany that text (which willbe sized to a maximum height of 180 pixels in height or 240 pixels inwidth).
Text Details
For $____ beyond the basic membership fee for the Chamber, the member would be entitled to add up to ___ words of non-formatted text to the listing for the member's primary businesss. The image shown below is an example of a listing with a total height of about 240 pixels. The listing has about 66 words.
Formatted text
A member's listing may be upgraded from a "linked text" listing to a "formatted text" listing, for $_____ in addition to the cost of the "linked text" participation. That formatting can include changes in size, colour and font for the listing, and it can include extra links and graphics. The only limitation is that the members are responsible for managing and updating the html on their sites, and the members are limited to a total size of 240 pixels in height. Because the 240 pixel size is higher than most of the standard images used by members, the size of the image-space can be expanded to 240 pixels in height, if the member wishes.
Google Ranking
We urge prospective advertisers, members and other contributors in the Gabriola Chamber web site to judge the site on the basis of its content: it already has significant content, and it is quickly moving toward its goal of becoming Gabriola's pre-eminent community web site. In addition to your own evaluation, though, you should take a look at the statistics available on Google: the Chamber's ranking on Google has consistetly put the site at the top of searches for "Gabriola Island", and we intend to maintain that ranking. As you can see from the image below (taken on July 15, 2007), gabriolaisland.org is still at the top of the listings (except for those sites that pay for superior rankings on Google).
Site Visits
Most Gabriolans like visitors. We certainly like to have visitors to our site. The graph shown below will give you an idea of how many people visit our site. The most simple and most impressive statistic shown on the following chart, is that more than 170 people (on average) have been visiting the Gabriola Chamber site every day. When you consider that those visitors are coming to the site because they want to learn more about Gabriola, you can appreciate that this is an ideal opportunity to promote your products or services to a market that wants to learn about you and what you can offer!
