Going on a Drive? |
Gabriola is the perfect place to do it! Encircling the Island is a main road (actually two roads, called North Rd. and South Rd.) that form a loop around the island, from one end to the other and back again! This makes a drive around the island so easy that all you need to worry about is keeping your eyes open for deer!
The drive around the Island takes roughly 30 minutes, but make sure to give yourself extra time to stop at all the great attractions along the way! Below is a list of just some of the great sights along the way!
- "The Tunnel" - Affectionately named "The Tunnel" by locals, this roughly three kilometer stretch of North Road runs through a beautiful "tunnel" of trees. Keep your eyes peeled for deer and other island wildlife as you take in this great piece of island living! Also, for the adventerous sort, there are even the beginning's of several of the Island's beautiful walking trails scattered along "The Tunnel"!
- The Petroglyphs - A glimpse into the past, The Petroglyphs offer a look at the history of this little Gulf Island. These beautiful First Nations stone carvings can be found scattered across the island, but are most prominently (and most easily) found in the Petroglyph Trail Community Park, located behind the Gabriola United Church on the corner of South Rd. and Price Rd.
- Beaches - Gabriola is home to a plethora of great beaches. Whether it is the rugged beauty of Drumbeg Park's sandstone beaches or the lazy elegance of Sandwell Provincial Park, you're sure to find a beach to suit your taste!
- Food and Drinks! - Driving is hard work! So be sure to take your time and stop off at one of the many great eateries, pubs and restaurants located on beautiful Gabriola Island!
