Moving To Gabriola

The GoGabriola brochure has a good map, but it is not as detailed as you might need if you are moving here. Drop by the Info Centre and pick up a street map for just $1. It will help you find all those tiny little streets no one has heard of and there is some great Gabriola general info and merchant info on the back.

The drawbridge is still down!

Some people would try to keep others from joining them, once they have found such a beautiful place to stay, and wish they could "raise the drawbridge" as soon as they get settled. We''re not like that: we want to share Gabriola with others who respect our island, and who respect the life-styles of all those who live here. If you want to learn more about moving to Gabriola, here is some information that might assist you...

What you won't find on Gabriola...

Don't expect to find big-box stores on Gabriola. Also, don't expect to find fast-food chains: the service in our local restaurants is very good, but you should be prepared to relax while you eat your meal or drink your tea or coffee.

Medical Services

A note about medical services... Gabriola has the benefit of a volunteer fire department, an RCMP detachment, and local medical professionals, including a full-time ambulance service. Gabriola does have emergency medical facilities, which have already proven very valuable. Serious injuries require transportation to Nanaimo''s Regional Hospital.

For more information on the changes now happening in health care visit Gabriola Health Care Society.
