At the age of 10, Alois Verlinden started drawing using graphite pencil. He immigrated to Canada from Belgium in 1962. In his new country, he was busy adapting to a different way of life, raising 4 children, and learning about photography. Upon retirement he focused on painting with oil, acrylic, water colour, and pastel. For the last 6 years he has concentrated on India Inc., coloured pencil, and scratch art.
Scratch art is similar to etching. It starts with a white board coated with several layers of India Inc. The subject is scratched mostly with an X-Acto knife. Almost any subject can be drawn (scratched) on the board in this way.
See Alois’ exhibit at the Professional Centre starting on October 2 and running until November 30, 2018.

Point of Order is compiled from TV footage of the 1954 Army-McCarthy hearings, in which the Army accused Senator McCarthy of improperly pressuring the Army for special privileges for Private David Schine, formerly of McCarthy’s investigative staff. McCarthy accused the Army of holding Schine hostage to keep him from searching for Communists in the Army. These hearings resulted in McCarthy’s eventual censure for conduct unbecoming a senator.
A remarkable documentary of The McCarthy era – we know Trump is bad, let’s not forget his roots and remember this too shall pass. Definitely one of the most remarkable political documents of our times is also an extremely riveting film.
