The title of the show, Yatomi, came out of a word play by using the first two letters of the artists’ names. Yatomi is “a person who has the potential to attain spiritual enlightenment.”
This show is about reconnection, reunion, resonance and art-making as a practice of healing and spirituality.
Yarrow Koontz, Mia Tremblay, and Tomoyo Ihaya attended at Emily Carr at the same time. They loved one another’s work ~ blink of an eye ~ 20 years later they are having an exhibition together.
Opening Reception on August 11 @ 6:30pm.
Tickets: Prices range from $16 (Early Worm – One Theatre Show) to $210 (Full Festival Pass) | Available online and at the Ticket Booth at the Folklife Village |

Cultivate is a new festival, but grows from the seeds of the Gabriola Theatre Festival, which ran for 9 years, and the Gabriola Music Festival, which started in 2017. It’s the latest event from the Gabriola Arts Council, which began its life 21 years ago as “Festival Gabriola”.
Our dream for this festival is to:
Cultivate live performance – We believe in in-the-flesh and 3D! We believe that something special happens between performer and audience that just can’t be digitized. We carefully select diverse performances for Gabriola Island soil.
Cultivate community – Cultivate is where friends and families from Gabriola and away can share experiences of celebration, dance, art, and reflection. It’s a place to connect, to hang out, and to play. We strive for a welcoming, inclusive space, with something for every age, and every economic circumstance.
Cultivate The Commons – Along with other local events, Cultivate Theatre+Music+Art Festival supports the Gabriola Commons as an open, vibrant gathering place on our island. We believe that culture is something we create together and that we all can participate in.
Cultivate creativity – We think something amazing happens when we bring together music, theatre, and art to cross-pollinate and intertwine. We want to bring together Gabriola’s music and theatre communities with off-island guests for inspiration and connection.

The Ken Capon Memorial Marching Band was formed in 2013 to remember Gabriola musician, handyman and community leader Ken Capon who lived large before leaving us on 14 October 2012. The players are a mixture of seasoned pros and enthusiastic amateurs and the repertoire is drawn from the great parade bands of New Orleans. The vibe is joyous and membership is open to anyone who wants to participate.
