FILM: Amnesty International Film Screening of Waban-Aki @ Gabriola Library | Gabriola | British Columbia | Canada

FREE Event | Drop-in | Everyone Welcome!

The Alanis Obomsawin film, WABAN-AKI: PEOPLE FROM WHERE THE SUN RISES shows the changes in the life of the Waban-Aki people, with a focus on the women who made baskets for a living.

It also explains the retracting of “Indian” status from women who married non-status men, resulting in women losing all their rights to live on reserve, etc., under the Indian Act, making Indigenous women legally invisible.

This screening is part of Amnesty’s Out of Sight, Out of Mind campaign, making sure that Indigenous women and girls are not #OutofSightOutofMind.
