At the age of 10, Alois Verlinden started drawing using graphite pencil. He immigrated to Canada from Belgium in 1962. In his new country, he was busy adapting to a different way of life, raising 4 children, and learning about photography. Upon retirement he focused on painting with oil, acrylic, water colour, and pastel. For the last 6 years he has concentrated on India Inc., coloured pencil, and scratch art.
Scratch art is similar to etching. It starts with a white board coated with several layers of India Inc. The subject is scratched mostly with an X-Acto knife. Almost any subject can be drawn (scratched) on the board in this way.
See Alois’ exhibit at the Professional Centre starting on October 2 and running until November 30, 2018.
