Meet at the Elder Cedar Nature Reserve (east of Tait Rd and west of Degnen Rd N) at 1:30pm. The parking area is very small, so please park on North Road. Don’t worry, you’ll be home before the Super Bowl kickoff.
The building site is very wet, so rubber boots are highly recommended. Bring gloves, shovels, cordless drills/drivers (with Robertson #2 bit) and hammers.
The Elder Cedar (S’ul-hween X’pey) Nature Reserve is owned by the Islands Trust Fund (ITF). As the co-holder of a conservation covenant registered on its property title, GaLTT periodically accepts contracts from the ITF to undertake needed maintenance at Elder Cedar. We were recently awarded a contract to construct a wooden boardwalk over a wet and hazardous section of trail near the foot bridge across the creek on the southern portion of the walking loop.
We’ll need to carry the lumber (2×6 and 2×10 cedar), concrete pier blocks, and other materials from the parking lot to the building site before installing the five boardwalk sections.
A good volunteer turnout will make the job a lot easier.
