On Friday, February 16, Bob Bossin will be bringing his special brand of music, humour and storytelling to Gabriola’s Community Hall for a farewell concert.  He will be joined by long-time colleagues and friends, former bandmates Marie-Lynn Hammond, Ben Mink and Calvin Cairns from Stringband, and Gabriola’s own Paul Gellman and Dinah D.

Brooklyn Girl producer Adrianne Marskell says:  “Bob is a Canadian icon – and he lives here on Gabe.  For the past 50 years, Bob has worked as a folksinger, songwriter, storyteller and social activist.  He’s ready to give up the road – but not before he puts together one more great concert.   And this is it.”

In 1971, Bob Bossin, founded Stringband, a Canadian folk ensemble that developed a dedicated following over their 15 years together.  They were noted for songs that explored Canadian themes, often with humour, such as Bossin`s `The Maple Leaf Dog`, `Dief Will be Chief Again` and `Show Us the Length`.

“Not many people can write songs that are funny, informative and inspiring at the same time. Bossin does.”  – Pete Seeger

“Only a handful of song writers have created a body of work that constitutes a portrait of our country. Stan Rogers did that. So did Gordon Lightfoot. And so does Bob Bossin.” – Stuart McLean, CBC

In addition, to his folk music career, Bob authored and performed the book and musical, Davy the Punk, brewed and performed Bossin’s Home Remedy for Nuclear War and made the videos Sulphur Passage (No pasaran) about the Clayoquot forest protests, and Only one bear in a hundred bites but they don’t come in order, protesting Kinder Morgan’s pipeline plan.

Why the farewell? Says Bob, “I figure baseball’s Sandy Koufax had it right: I want to retire at the top of my game… Well, almost at the top. And I want a grand going-away party! Great musicians, new songs, old favourites and old friends. What could be better?”

This concert would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors:  Nature Spirit Earth Market, Bill Pope’s Law Office, Gabriola Fitness Centre, Carol Martin Professional Real Estate Corporation, Twin Cedars Veterinary Clinic, New Society Publishers, Gloria Filax, Robert’s Place, and Surf Lodge and Pub.
