Meet on Garland Drive (just past the Community Centre) at 1:30pm Sunday, February 18.
Bring gloves, shovels, pick axes, levels, and cordless drills/drivers (with Phillips #3 bit).
Apologies to the few hardy souls who showed up at the work party on Feb. 18th despite the snowy weather. Unfortunately, the power outage made it impossible to send out a cancellation notice. In anticipation of snowmelt, here’s a repeat notice of the postponed work party.
There’s a lovely trail running from Garland Drive (near the Community Hall) to Lois Lane. Part of the trail is located on an undeveloped MOTI right-of-way, but portions of the trail cross private property. The owners of the two properties have generously allowed public access by signing a trail licence with GaLTT. There are currently 13 licenced trails on Gabriola Island.
The previously-installed trail signage has mysteriously disappeared. This is a problem, since the entrances at both ends are difficult to find and the trail takes a few turns which can be confusing for trail users. New signs need to be installed at both entrances and at several trail intersections along the way. We’ll install several 4×4 wooden posts which will be more difficult to remove. We’ll even add a little Quikrete® to at least some of the holes.
